New work on the go

I'm addicted to using Derwent Inktense and watercolour paper at the minute. I've been doing a lot of portraits of famous lesbians, feminists, and all round strong, independent women. I'll be continuing this series of work until I feel I've done all I can with it.

I'm also taking a rest from the enormous self-portrait - 'After Frida' - that I was working on. This will be taken up again whenever I am feeling it again.

I'm hoping to start a series of portraits - as yet untitled - that will depict people on the outskirts of the mainstream. I'll be looking at queer communities, alternative communities (punks, goths etc), the BDSM community and possibly the disabled community. If anyone would like to volunteer to be painted/drawn, or knows anyone who would, let me know! I'm always looking for interesting muses!

Upcoming exhibitions!!!

I currently have a painting in an exhibition in Worcester! My painting 'Metropolis' is featured in the Worcester Open exhibition. The exhibition finishes tomorrow, so hurry if you want to go along and check it out! There are loads of fantastic artists in the show so it's guaranteed to be worth a visit.

Also coming soon, I have four paintings in the Great Sheffield Art Show, which runs between the 8th and 11th July at the Octagon Centre, which is part of the University of Sheffield. Check out my website http://artbytoyah.weebly.com/ for a link to the exhibition's homepage, plus images of the work I had accepted.

In May 2011, I will be putting a selection of my work on the walls of Taurus bar on Canal St, Manchester. Watch this space or visit my website for updates and more info!
